Wasn't there an old saying along the lines of "nobody values free advice"? Well, it doesn't apply here! Yes, I suppose if you want to be cynical, you could say something along the lines of "What's the big deal? Even basic vans come with a sophisticated telematics and diagnostics package these days, so why shouldn't a new refuse collection vehicle costing six times as much?" Fair point, and indeed my opening gambit in recent discussions with Dennis Eagle aftermarket director, Geoff Rigg. But as with many things in life, what often seems simple, isn't. For a start, a brand new RCV contains far more"gubbins" than your average light van, or car. Or indeed your average haulage truck. And secondly, I think we can all agree, even without having to venture down a landfill haul road twice a day for seven years in all weathers - as was once the case - an RCV has a much tougher life.
