Basel Ban Amendment becomes international law

摘要

A ban on the export of hazardous waste to developing countries has become enshrined in international law. The Basel Ban Amendment was adopted by the parties to the Basel Convention in 1995. However, ratification by Croatia on 6 September takes the number of countries to approve the amendment beyond the key threshold of three-quarters of the total that were present and voting in 1995. This means the law will come into force on 5 December 2019 for those countries that have ratified it.
