Mudslide Threat Forces Immediate Superfund Action

Confronted with the possibility of a potentially massive mudslide at a Superfund site in eastern Vermont, the U.S. Environmental Protection Agency (EPA) and Vermont's Department of Environmental Conservation (DEC) recently began implementing emergency actions at the site to prevent a disaster. The move followed the recent discovery that an enormous tailings pile at the Elizabeth Mine site is less stable than was previously believed.
