New Music Center Combines Elegance and Efficiency

A new performance hall has joined the list of venerable arts facilities gracing metropolitan Washington, D.C. The Music Center at Strathmore, in North Bethesda, Maryland, is a $98-mil-lion, 195,000 sq ft (18,116 m~2) facility that will serve as the second home of the Baltimore Symphony Orchestra. The project was led by William Rawn Associates, Architects, of Boston; LeMessuri-er Consultants, of Cambridge, Massachusetts; and acoustics specialist R. Lawrence Kirkegaard and Associates, of Chicago. The team has worked together on previous arts venues and those experiences informed their collaboration on this project. Clark Construction Group, of Bethesda, Maryland, was the general contractor.
