New Life for ONONDAGA LAKE

It has been called the most polluted lake in the nation— and with good reason. The 20th century was indeed unkind to Onondaga Lake, in central New York. Nearly 100 years of severe industrial contamination and several decades of municipal wastewater discharges left their mark on the water body. However, efforts to eliminate the effects of contamination in and around the lake, reduce nutrient levels in municipal wastewater discharges, and lessen the effects of combined sewer overflows (csos) are resulting in undeniable improvements.
