Utah Developer Creates Lake to Enhance Planned Community

An 85 acre (34.4 ha) lake is being created in terraced land once occupied by Lake Bonneville—a body of water that covered much of western Utah some 14,000 to 32,000 years ago. Christened Oquirrh Lake, the new lake will form part of a planned community owned by Kennecott Land, a development firm located in Murray, Utah. According to research conducted by the firm, Oquirrh Lake is believed to be the largest artificial lake ever built for a planned community in the United States. Construction began -in early 2005 and completion is scheduled for 2010.
