USGS UPDATES NATIONAL SEISMIC HAZARD MAPS

The United States Geological Survey (usgs) has updated its national seismic hazard maps for 2008. New seismic, geologic, and geodetic information on earthquake rates and associated ground shaking has been incorporated into the maps, which update versions released in 1996 and 2002. Hundreds of scientists and engineers attending regional and topical workshops were involved in the updates, as were representatives of state geological surveys and federal agencies and experts from industry and academia.
