Having formally approved the $597-million Bay Division Pipeline Reliability Upgrade Project in July, the San Francisco Public Utilities Commission (SFPUC) anticipates that construction will begin next spring on the project's 16 mi (26 km) of pipeline and the 5 mi (8 km) long tunnel under San Francisco Bay.
