Many European Tunnels Require Safety Improvements, Agency Says

Anew Study shows that many tunnels throughout Europe will fail to comply with European Union safety regulations that are scheduled to take effect in 2014. Inspections were carried out earlier this year on 26 tunnels in 13 countries as part of the European Tunnel Assessment Programme. Four of the tunnels were in Spain, three were in Germany, three in Italy, three in Austria, and three in Switzerland.
