摘要

As the summer of 2010 unfolded, a number of new global temperature records seemed to be set each month. One wonders what author Stan Cox-whose latest book, Losing Our Cool, rnthought or his luck.rnGiven that he's arguing for the need to reduce our reliance on energy-consuming air-conditioning, did he curse his timing? More likely, as a scientist concerned about environmental stewardship and climate change, Cox saw the extended heat wave merely as the latest object lesson in the area of global warming, a subject inextricably bound up with his thesis that our heavy reliance on conditioned air is taking a toll.
