摘要

The restoration of a defunct narrow-gauge steam engine rail line in the United Kingdom in northwestern Wales is nearing completion after more than 12 years of professional and volunteer engineering work. The Welsh 1 lighland Railway (WHR), which was formed in 1922 as a conglomeration of several earlier railways and ceased operations in 1937, once carried shipments of slate but now pulls vintage passenger cars filled with tourists along its reopened sections. When completed, the full 25 mi line will connect the ancient town of Caernarfon with the historically important harbor town of Porthmadog, in Gwynedd County, via reinstated tracks that will traverse the mountains of Snowdonia National Park, where the gradient reaches 1:40, and take passengers through the scenic Aberglaslyn Pass.
