An office complex located in the shadow of the U.S. Capitol has become a landmark in its own right since the opening of its newest ad- dition, located at 300 New Jersey Avenue, N.W., in July 2009. The 10-story building's floor-to-ceiling glass windows and its dra-matic 9-story glazed atrium with a "float- ing" glass roofpassed a rigorous test in recent months as the Washington, D.C., area expe-rienced record-breaking snowfalls and bliz- zard conditions. But its enduring value lies in its use of 21st-century architectural fea- tures that blend with the existing structures to which it connects, a six-story limestone building constructed in 1935 and a seven-story limestone and brick addition built in 1953. The new structure creates a fresh focal point for an existing office community and a new public space for the nation s capital.
