Malibu's Cleaning Machine

The recently completed Legacy Park, in Malibu, California, incorporates natural features intended to complement the city's existing storm-water treatment facility. At the heart of the new, 15'-acrepark, a naturalized stream channel and a vegetated detention pond maximize treatment effectiveness while providing educational and recreational opportunities in the center of the community. As children run along the trails that circle the pond and play among the animal sculptures and native plants that dot the landscape of the new Legacy Park, in Malibu, California, a series of educational signs explain the complex system at work all around them, a system engineered to capture and treat storm water and urban runoff in a way that will improve local water quality. After much anticipation, Legacy Park, Malibu's new "environmental cleaning machine," is fully operational and open to the public.
