Conductive Cement Could Pave Way to Heated Roads, Bridges

A cement that conducts electricity could one day make frozen roads and icy airport runways a thing of the past, say researchers in Spain at the Universidad de Alicante. A research team in the university's civil engineering department is working to develop a composite cement that contains carbon nano-fibers and conducts electricity much better than can conventional concrete. According to Pedro Garces Terradillos, a professor at the university and the research team's leader, the team began working on the technology more than 10 years ago after seeing similar research in the 1990s.
