New York City's Mass Transit System Expands

BENEATH New York City's historic Grand Central Terminal, in midtown Manhattan, crews are blasting and excavating rock to make way for a new commuter rail station that will span the length of five football fields (not counting the fields' end zones). The new station is being built as part of a larger project known as East Side Access, one of three highly ambitious mass transit projects under way below the streets of the bustling metropolis.
