A report released in early January by the U.S. Army Corps of Engineers presents several options for controlling the movement of aquatic nuisance species between the watersheds of the Great Lakes and the Mississippi River. With cost estimates for the options ranging from $68 million to a staggering $18 billion, it remains to be seen how much influence the congressionally mandated report will have in determining what steps, if any, will be taken to prevent invasive species from moving back and forth between the two exoansive watersheds.
