Airborne LiDAR for archaeology in Central and South America

THE rainforests in Central and South America give little indication of the civilizations that they've swallowed up. A few centuries ago these regions were home to bustling indigenous cities, yet when the civilizations collapsed or the settlements abandoned, the forests quickly overran their buildings like a rolling green carpet. Now, we can see little of these structures except for the occasional pyramid poking out of the forest to indicate the location of what was once a sprawling metropolis.
