Rejoinder

摘要

Adaptive neuro-fuzzy inference systems (ANFIS) are a fashionable technique that can be applied to many engineering and earth sciences problems. Although they are attractive as a modelling procedure their application in engineering must be cautiously evaluated and reviewed. Otherwise, misinterpretations, misuses and flaws are encountered even in the international journals. In order to avoid such pitfalls it is necessary to concentrate on the basic philosophy of the method rather than its mechanical uses.
