The topic of motor control is like an onion. No, it isn't smelly—at least if you wire things up right. Rather, the more layers you peel, the more you find. I originally had planned to cover the subject in a single column. In retrospect, that was a ludicrous goal, considering it took all of last month's column just to describe, and briefly at that, the various types of electric motors. Think I'm exaggerating the onion analogy? I just searched the Net for "motor control" and got 5,480,000 hits! Let's see, if I click one link per minute, I can wade through them all in...hmm...divide by 60, then 24, then... Oh, let's just call it an even 10 years! Clearly, a little trimming is called for.
