The Kinoton MP75E Multiformat Film Projector

Following earlier pieces in Cinema Technology about the latest Kinoton projectors, several projectionists wrote to ask for more details of this truly revolutionary projector design. At the suggestion of Cinema Technology's editor, therefore, Lutz Schmidt, Dipl.-Ing. (FH) of Kinoton GmbH produced this excellent technical paper, and ax Bell was kind enough to review and modify the piece before publication. The Kinoton MP75 is a film projector that covers the 35mm/4perf and 70mm/5perf film formats and the 70mm/8perf Large Format including all associated picture and sound formats. And all does really mean all. The basic idea was to give theatres the opportunity to show true Large-Format film and conventional 35mm prints with one compact system without any compromises. The format conversions are done very quickly. So Large-Format Theatres, which have their main focus on 70mm/8perf film get the opportunity to improve their revenues with normal 35mm feature films. And as an approach from the normal theatrical exhibition, cinema operators have simple access to the grandeur of real Large Format Film. Of course the architectural design of the auditorium should support this.
