Martyn Green Meets the chief...in China!

A fascinating 'Meet the Chief' interview, which highlights some of the major differences, and many similarities between the work of projectionists in Europe and their Chinese counterparts. We also learn that 'fun in yuen' means projectionist in Chinese. Just as in many cities throughout the world, cinema attendances in China have been dropping over the years. However, after the smart new Rising Sun cineplex opened last June in Lanzhou, capital of China's Gansu province, with its modern, comfortable facilities, it soon achieved some prominence in the community. Especially when it started off by showing the China-made block- buster production, "House of Flying Daggers", with its superb photography and outstanding visual and audio effects. The 120-minute film, by director Zhang Yi Mou (who made Crouching Tiger, Hidden Dragon, and Hero) recently had its premiere in London [in January 2005].
