UPDATE ON BILIARY STENT OCCLUSION

摘要

Endoscopic biliary stents provide effective palliation of malignant and benign obstructive jaundice in patients. Unfortunately, the stents in current use have a tendency to block with biofilm. Stent blockage is a multifactorial process, in which biliary bacteria, proteins and stent characteristics play a significant role. This review focus on the factors causing the stent blockage and future approaches to prevention.
