Clinical Observation on Zhengan Xifeng Decoction in Treating Peri-Menopausal Syndrome

Menopausal syndrome is the transforming stage of women's sexual function from mature to declining. Owing to the decline of ovarium function, estrogen secretion gradually reduced and a syndrome occurred. In modern medicine it is suggested to use hormone replacing therapy ( HRT) , but on May 31, 2002, the researcher of United States terminated the research project of Women's Health Initiative (WHI), which used estrogen plus progestins in post-meno-pausal women to assess the benefit and risk of HRT to health, the largest in scale of clinical trials. In July 7, 2002, the JAMA publicized the study results, which revealed that the risk of HRT was greater than its benefit, as the risk of mammary cancer, coronary heart disease, stroke and pulmonary embolism occurrence markedly increased when it was used.
