The creation of high-speed machinery and mechanisms, the operational reliability and longevity of which is determined largely by the purity of the fuels, lubricants, and hydraulic oils employed, is characteristic of the modern stage of a production process. Insufficient purity of paint and varnish materials (PVM) degrades the decorative and production characteristics of the coatings. High-purity liquids are used in microelectronics, precision instrument building, and other branches of industry. Existing methods of cleaning, which include filtration and centrifuging, have exhausted their cleaning potential; the development of principally new effective trends is therefore required. The method of low-voltage electrophoresis (EP), which is based on the intense effect of an electric field on charged particles of contaminants is an alternative method of the deep cleaning of PVM. The method is universal, exhibits broad possibilities for the control of charged-particle flow, and provides for hyperfine cleaning of micron- and submicron-size impurities from liquids, since its effectiveness in contrast to filtration and centrifuging is independent of particle size.
