It is basic to providing efficient operation and plant reliability to perform servicing and repair not according to a fixed scheme but instead on the actual state of the equipment as estimated from diagnostic results in order to extend the working life and reduce expense. Parametric methods are used to diagnose heat-engineering plant, including heat exchangers (HE). As a rule, parametric diagnosis is performed in steady states, which results in relatively low sensitivity and resolving power. At NIIEFA-ENERGO Company (St. Petersburg), we have developed a method of diagnosing HE from dynamic characteristics with the exchangers working in transient states under increasing or decreasing load. This substantially extends the diagnostic region, and increases the sensitivity and reliability.
