In Memorium - Dr. Jay Alfred Young

On 13 October 2011, Jay Young died at the age of 91. Jay wrote the column "Anecdotal Accidents" for this Journal for several years, finally retiring his column at the end of 2002. The Division held a memorial symposium for his family at the San Diego meeting in March of this year. Jay was a mentor to many (myself included) and a master of the Socratic method. He would always question an answer, forcing whomever he was talking to deeply explore the topic and never accepting a superficial response.
