Mechanical code change proposals of interest for research operations Accident/incident information on the Web

This column provides timely updates to two very important issues. Several International Mechanical Code (IMC) change proposals related to laboratory ventilation warrant attention from those interested in laboratory safety and energy conservation. As a reminder, the International Code Council (ICC) maintains and continually updates a body of codes that states commonly adopt, and which then serve as mandatory requirement for design and construction of new buildings. The ICC website at the time of this writing indicates that the IMC, one of the ICC codes, has been adopted by some jurisdictions or statewide in 47 states. The IMC provides code requirements, where adopted, for mechanical systems which include ventilation systems.
