Quenching of melt extruded continuous filaments - past, present and future

Quenching is the basic technological requirement for filament production. The earliest record of quenching by passive means is that of letting the ambient environment solidify the melt-extruded filament strands coming out of the spinneret. With the increasing sophistication of filament production and its specialization for the various application fields, the quenching systems have evolved into various technologically advanced active methods as suited to each process.
