The ability of both polymer metering pump manufacturers and winder manufacturers to expand the numbers of ends per position in recent years has had a hugely significant effect on the production of man-made fibers. Not too many years ago the majority of polymer metering pumps were 2, 4 and then 6 outlet. When an 8 outlet pump was developed and introduced to potentially replace two 4 outlet pumps, it allowed spin beam designers to simplify their work and look to use only 1 pump, 1 set of internal pipe work and 1 drive assembly. For a time this seemed to have stretched the envelope as far as was possible. Then, in seemingly just a few short years - coupled with the advancement of winder technology - the industry has rushed onwards with 10, 12 and now even 16 outlet polymer pumps. The design and development by Slack & Parr in 2009 of a 16 outlet hot polymer metering pump for PA and PET again seemed to have stretched the boundaries to their current limits.
