World market for high-tenacity polyamide and polyester filament yams

One of the main drivers for the demand for high-tenacity industrial yarns, in particular for industrial PA 66 yarns, is the global automotive industry; however, in recent years the development of this industry varied widely in the different regions of the world. In Europe, the registration of new cars in 2012 amounted to 12.1 million vehicles and thus fell to the lowest level since 1995. This is a reduction of 8.2% compared to 2011 and mainly resulted in a decreased demand for yarns for airbags and tires as well as the replacement business. Strong exports of luxury-segment vehicles to Asia, in particular China, were able to counteract this trend, but were not able to compensate for it.
