In the Cornet project POMELAD (Development of PolyOlefin MELt ADhe-sion fibers and yarns and implementation into textile applications), various polyolefin blends with a broad melting trajectory were investigated on their intrinsic properties, yarn processability and melt adhesion properties. Furthermore, the implementation into textile applications (e.g. fiber furs, fleece fabrics, carpet backing, secondary carpet backing, carpet tiles and gauze), where structural cohesion is important, was investigated. From the evaluation of thermal fixated screen and velvet fabrics, structural cohesion of these fabrics has been proven due to their melt bonding behavior. Additionally, sewing yarns were also produced with polyolefin fibers mixed with regular cotton fibers. The produced sewing yarns show promising results on seam strength.
