We have successfully transformed the infectious E. colt bacteria into biocompatible bacteria@ Au composites for photothermal therapy.rnThe near-infrared (NIR) region, where tissue transmission is optimal due to low scattering and energy absorption, provides maximum irradiation penetration through tissue. For NIR light absorbing gold-based materials, gold nanostructures such as gold nanoshells coated onto silica spheres, gold nanorods, and gold nanocages have attracted a great deal of attention in the photothermal treatment of tumor cells. These studies suggest that this new class of bioconjugated-and immuno-gold derived nanostructures with good biocom-patibility can serve as noninvasive and effective photothermal therapeutic agents for cancer treatment.
