Facile synthetic strategy for efficient and multi-color fluorescent BCNO nanocrystals

A facile strategy based on the reaction of urea and boric acid is developed for the synthesis of toxicity-free BCNO nanocrystals containing carbon impurities and which exhibit efficient multi-color fluorescence under both single-photon and two-photon excitation.rnFluorescent nanoparticles (NPs) have been paid growing attention over the last decade due to their many promising applications, especially in the field of biological imaging based on one-photon and multi-photon excited fluorescence. Semiconductor quantum dots (QDs), such as metal chalcogenides CdX (X = S, Se, Te), are among the most efficient nanoscaled luminescent materials for in vivo imaging and diagnostics for live cells.
