Modernisierung Ofenlinie 2 des Zementwerks Cemento Andino in Peru

Cemento Andino is a Peruvian cement manufacturer operating a plant in the Central Andes of Peru at 3 950 m meters above sea level. It is the only plant in the world that operates at such an altitude. Currently Andino has two production lines in operation ― kiln line no. 2 with an initial capacity of 400 t/d and kiln line no. 3 with 1800 t/d. Cemento Andino hired ARPL Tecnlogia Industrial S.A., a Peruvian engineering consulting firm, to develop an extension plan for their kiln line no. 2 to increase its capacity. This plant needed to be cost-efficient assuring a high quality product at a reasonable investment. The area of responsibility of ARPL extended from the primary crushing up to the cement grinding section. A new primary crusher was installed, transforming the original one into a secondary crusher. The raw mill capacity was increased by adding a hammer crusher operating in tandem with the mill. Kiln line no. 2 was upgraded to triple its capacity (from 400 t/d to 1400 t/d). The installation of a six-stage preheater with calciner and tertiary air led to a reduction of the energy consumption. Now the heat consumption amounts to 3 475 kJ/kg of clinker, on an average, at almost 4000 meters above sea level. Finally, a new roller press was installed for cement grinding. Basic and detailed engineering as well as management and supervision were performed by ARPL. However, various cement machine manufacturers were subcontracted for specific engineering. The project was completed in 24 months, from March 1998 till March 2000, with a total investment of US$ 56 million.
