Iranian cement industry - challenge for market economy

On December 29, 2005, the Iranian cement industry celebrated the 73rd year of its establishment, started in 1933 with a 100 t/d cement kiln, expanded to about 120 000 t/d at the beginning of 2006. Iran is a developing country, suffering invariably from natural disasters like earthquakes, floods and so on. Moreover, the eight year war with Iraq, high population growth in the last decades, the high demand for more infrastructure facilities, rapid urbanization, hundreds of industrial projects in hand and many other urgent needs for cement have made cement a much favoured commodity for a prolonged period of time (Table 1).%Am 29. Dezember 2005 feierte die iranische Zementindustrie den 73. Jahrestag ihres Bestehens. Es begann im Jahr 1933 mit einem Ofen, der eine Leistung von 100 t/d hatte. Anfang 2006 rechnet man nun mit einer Gesamtleistung von ca. 120 000 t/d. Der Iran ist ein Entwicklungsland, das ständig von Naturkatastrophen wie Erdbeben, Überschwemmungen usw. heimgesucht wird. Darüber hinaus haben der acht Jahre dauernde Krieg mit dem Irak, ein hohes Bevölkerungswachstum in den letzten Jahrzehnten, der hohe Bedarf an der Weiterentwicklung der Infrastruktur, die schnelle Urbanisierung, hunderte von Industrieprojekten und der Bedarf an Zement auf vielen anderen Gebieten diesen für lange Zeit zu einer äußerst gefragten Ware gemacht (Tabelle 1).
