Timeline of the IEEE-IAS/PCA Cement Industry Technical Conference

2008 is a special year for the IEEE-IAS/PCA Cement Industry Technical Conference. With its 50th annual conference the event can look back on a long and varied history. That is sufficient reason to review the past. Coplay burnt natural cement rock found in the Lehigh district to incipient fusion and then ground the clinker (Fig. 1). His product met the same tests applied to the best imported portland cements; consequently, he claimed his manufacturing process to be new and applied for a patent on September 26, 1871. This date is regarded as the birth date of the American Portland Cement Industry.
