Design challenges for home gateway devices

The ubiquity of broadband connectivity and advancements in home networking technology introduce into the market a new breed of consumer premise equipment termed "home gateways" or "residential gateways." The home gateway is a consumer device with a low price point, but its engineering poses a number of design, integration and testing challenges. This article details the hardware and software architecture of the home gateway device.
