摘要

Those of us in the cataloging world faced with change on all fronts have been challenged in recent years to understand where we are and where we need to go. One of the best, most effective ways of understanding what is going on and charting a course for future directions is with evidence-evidence based on research and empirical investigation, not just stories from the front lines and passionate appeals, although these have their place. As a faculty member who teaches cataloging (with some passion, I hope), I am particularly interested in encouraging and supporting research. Thus, when asked to be on the American Library Association ALCTS (Association for Library Collections & Technical Services) Implementation Task Group on the Library of Congress Working Group Report,1 I said yes, and volunteered to work with Jimmie Lundgren from the University of Florida on the research-related recommendations.
