Cataloging Legal Literature

Cataloging Legal Literature, 4th Edition (CLL4) updates and expands earlier editions of this essentia] work on cataloging legal materials to conform to current descriptive and subject cataloging practices. The fourth edition, available both online and in print, replaces the third edition, published almost 20 years ago. It is fully updated to follow the current cataloging standard Resource Description & Access (RDA), Library of Congress genre form/terms for law materials, and the most recent changes in subject headings use. The online version includes hypertext links to many of the resources referenced in the text. CLL4 is not a complete law cataloging manual since it addresses only the unique aspects of legal cataloging to cover "the most common and troublesome legal publication questions," and should be used in conjunction with RDA, Library of Congress Subject Headings (LCSH), Subject Headings Manual (SHM), and other general cataloging tools. One of its aims is to advise catalogers in situations calling for catalogers' judgment, which is emphasized in RDA. The authors, Lembke and Beck, are recognized experts, and their knowledge and understanding of both legal materials and cataloging make this manual an authoritative guide to cataloging legal resources.
