WFDA members attending the conference at the end of April were asked to give basic assent to three measures which, if fully implemented, could dramatically alter the composition of the association and its role in the carpet industry. The first, introduced by WFDA chairman David Shenkin, was the concept of an association which would represent the interests of the whole of the floorcoverings trade, allowing it to speak with a single voice. Council member John Lambie, of Gerflor, recalled a report to the conference two years ago by the then chairman Alan MacPherson who believed the association should seek to represent wider interests than purely the wholesaling sector.
