The Butterfly Fauna of Curacao, West Indies: 1996 Status and Long-Term Species Turnover

Thirteen months of consecutive collection on the southern Caribbean island of Curacoao docu- mented the presence of 53 species of butterfiles. The number of species recorded was highest during the rainy season but time of peak abundance were different form nay species. In terms of general abundance, 26 (49/100) species were uncommon or rare and the same number common or abundant. Eighteen (34/100) of the species were well represented in urbanized areas while most species (66/100) were either preferentially dis- tributed in unurbanized areas, or were too uncommon to allow conclusions regarding habitat distribution.
