Las Breas de San Felipe, a Quaternary Fossiliferous Asphalt Seep near Marti (Matanzas Province, Cuba)

Within the Greater Antilles, terrestrial asphalt seeps are unique to the northern coastal region of Cuba. Several such seeps occur in the region designated here as Las Breas de San Felipe, which is situated in the northern part of Matanzas proince, 5.5 km northwest of the town of Marti. We report here on two localities (San Felipe I and II) at which fossil elements occur in abundance in asphalt-impregnated sands, silts, clays, and gravels.
