Australia-based Qantas said it would dry lease a 747-400ERF to replace one of the three 747-400Fs it currently leases from Atlas Air when the lease on the Atlas freighter expires. Qantas Freight Enterprises Executive Manager Lisa Brock said: "This is a near-new freighter aircraft that will help us provide a better service for our customers and reduce costs." She did not specify the source of the new freighter but Cargo Facts believes it is unit 37303, a 747-400ERF originally built by Boeing for Kuwait-based Loadair Cargo, but never delivered, and recently acquired by HSH Nordbank [FAT 000754 - 756]. Wholly-owned Qantas subsidiary Express Freighters Australia will operate the new freighter when it enters service near the end of 2013. Qantas has not announced whether it will also replace the other two ACMI-leased 747-400Fs as the leases expire. In addition to the three 747-400Fs ACMI-leased from Atlas, Qantas currently operates one 767-300F, four 737-300Fs, four BAel46QTs, and one Saab 340F.
