Deutsche Post-DHL reported net income up 9.2% y-o-y in the second quarter of 2014 to €461 million, as total revenue rose only slightly (0.7%) to €13.70 billion. Operating profit (EBIT) for the quarter was up 9.2% to €654 million. The gains were driven by strong performances in the company's Express and Supply Chain Divisions, while the Global Forwarding, Freight division continued to lag. Some highlights by division include: Express: The division followed a strong first quarter with solid revenue and earnings performance in the second quarter. Reported revenue was up 2.5% to €3.09 billion, but adjusted for "inorganic effects and substantial negative exchange-rate effects, revenue climbed more than 7%." As in the first quarter, strong growth in international time-definite shipments was the main driver of the revenue improvement. Express operating profit was up 17.7% to €332 million. Operating margin in the Express division continues to improve, and stood at 10.7% in the second quarter. While this is still well below the 14% margin UPS achieves in its package operations, it is nonetheless very healthy.
