As the Chinese Government moves to pare down its outlays on state-ownedrnbehemoths, it has been widely reported that the cargo and logistics operationsrnof Beijing-based Air China and Guangzhou-based China Southern willrnbe divested and merged into a single entity. Sources quoted in Bloombergrnhave even identified potential investors for the new company, whichrninclude freight forwarder Sinotrans, Cathay Pacific Airways and YTOrnExpress. Interviews by Cargo Facts with sources familiar with drafts ofrnthe reform plans at each of the big three airlines in China, Air China andrnChina Southern are indeed drafting proposals to spin-off their cargo operationsrninto standalone companies, but, at this stage, these proposals do notrninclude merging and combining into a single company.
