Bouygues Telecom is the No. 3 mobile network operator in an increasingly competitive French mobile market. So it is keen to find reasons for subscribers to remain loyal. With the budding craze over contactless payment and ticketing continuing apace, Bouygues launched a small pre-emptive strike on its two major rivals in late October by being the first to announce plans for allowing subscribers to buy and spend electronic transit tickets with their phones on the Paris Metro. The operator believes e-ticketing as well as payment are a natural fit for what it predicts will be a new generation of contactless handsets that will be widely available in three to five years.
