Interac makes first Canadian chip debit card transaction

The Canadian Interac Association, the group responsible for the oper-ations and development of a national network allowing Canadians to access money via ATMs and point of sale terminals, has announced the completion of the first chip-based INTERAC debit card transaction at the point-of-sale. The transaction was processed by TD Merchant Services using a BMO Bank of Montreal chip debit card at Mercato Giovanni's Fresh Food located in downtown Toronto.
