Costa Rica joins the Verified Carbon Standard's Jurisdictional and Nested REDD+ program

Costa Rica is the latest country to take steps towards harnessing the carbon sequestration potential of their forests by piloting the Verified Carbon Standard's (VCS's) Jurisdictional and Nested REDD+ (JNR) program. The VCS is a GHG accounting program employed by projects around the world to verify and issue carbon credits in voluntary markets. The VCS's JNR guidelines provide a carbon accounting framework that aims to unify forest carbon offsetting policies, for individual carbon credit-generating projects and national REDD programs.
