Hats off to the Kyoto Protocol and the CDM: a giant success story

The Kyoto Protocol, the world's only global treaty to address climate change, is at risk as the first commitment period ended 31 December 2012. Canada, Japan and Russia have already stated they would not take on new commitments in the future. As the world frantically negotiates future obligations and the fate of our climate lies in limbo, it may be useful to take stock of what was accomplished so far. This article takes a brief look at the Kyoto Protocol and one of its most important accomplishments - the CDM.
