Based on the previous XJ40, the X300 made a welcome return to the more rounded styling of earlier Jaguars. It was also the first XJ to be fully produced under Ford's ownership. The XJ40 had a reputation for unreliability and poor quality, which the X300 sought to undo with improved dependability and a better build.
